Introduction Blog

My name is Danielle Denning and I am a student in English 20803. I am from St. Louis, Missouri home of the wonderful Cardinals baseball team. In St. Louis I went to a private high school called MICDS and decided to come all the way to Texas because my dad went to school here a LONG time ago. I am now a sophomore at TCU and I plan on majoring in Business.

I signed up for this course because it was a requirement; however, by the end of the semester I hope to become more comfortable with writing in general. I want to be satisfied with what writing I produce and not feel that it is such a daunting task.

I feel like it has been so long since I have had to write on an every day basis in a classroom setting. I think this is what makes me feel so uncomfortable about writing an essay for a class. In high school I was confident about my essay's but I was never worried about sentence structure or grammar so it seemed to just flow onto my paper. Last year I took a composition class in which the main focus was not content but grammar and I felt lost. I was so focused on sentence structure and punctuation I felt my writing went down 3 levels and I didn't particularly like anything that I turned in. Writing for me now is usually texting or facebook, which seems like an entirely different language.

I have very little interest in politics because I find political conversations unpleasant. I personally believe that when talking about politics many people forget the meaning of the word opinion. your personal opinion is what you believe, who am I to tell you what you believe in is wrong? There will never be a day when every singe person in our country agrees on one thing, therefore I think we should learn to respect each other's opinions rather than tear them down. I guess what I'm saying is not that I hate the political system, but what it compels people to do and say. However, I am excited to discuss this topic in class because it seems like a controlled environment where we are more likely to accept each others differing opinions. And since I really don't know a lot about politics and the presidential candidates it will be a good place to learn more.

Through my design choices of my blog I think I am making the argument that blogs can be fun. The bright colors made me feel more upbeat when I began to write. However; this is only my first time blogging and I think later on in the semester my page will have more personality than it does now.

I have read, understand, and agree to the terms of the course syllabus.
